Who am I

Hi, I’m Mal — founder of Mal’s Equine Worm Egg Counts, passionate horse person, mum, and have a genuine interest in the science behind equine health — even the messy bits.

I’ve worked with horses in a variety of settings over the years and have always been drawn to the quieter, more thoughtful side of horse care — the kind that supports long-term health and wellbeing. Parasite management is a huge part of that, and I started this service to help horse owners make better-informed, more strategic decisions.

I believe in:

  • Using science, not guesswork

  • Avoiding unnecessary treatments

  • Slowing resistance through smarter choices

  • Making things easy and practical for owners

I live in Tasmania with my amazing partner (who’s learning to love horses, one hoof-pick at a time) and our beautiful child, who already knows their way around a feed bucket.

When I’m not looking at worm eggs under a microscope, I’m probably chasing ponies, juggling life as a mum, or enjoying the quiet moments that come with being around horses.

Thanks for stopping by — I’m really glad you’re here.

Why I Started Mal’s Equine Worm Egg Counts

Like many horse owners, I used to follow the usual worming routines — until I started questioning whether they actually made sense for my horses. Once I learned about faecal egg count testing, I knew I wanted to do better. But when I went looking for a local service, I found the tests were expensive, hard to access, and mostly only available interstate.

That didn’t sit right with me.

So I created the service I was looking for — affordable, local, and genuinely supportive.

Now, I help other horse owners take the guesswork out of worming and feel more confident in their decisions.

My goal is simple: practical, science-based parasite management that puts horse welfare first — no scare tactics, no pressure, just clear information and support when you need it.
