Collecting & Submitting a Sample
How to Collect a Sample
Please follow the instructions for the test you’ve requested.
🟢 For FEC & FECRT (Faecal Egg Count Testing)
1️⃣ Collect fresh manure – ideally less than 12 hours old. One or two balls is plenty.
2️⃣ Take from the inside – avoid soil, bedding, or urine contamination.
3️⃣ Bag it – place in a zip-lock bag and squeeze out the air (sterile containers are not required).
4️⃣ Label clearly – write the horse’s name on the bag.
5️⃣ Keep cool – refrigerate for up to 3–4 days if needed. Do not freeze.
🟡 For Tapeworm Testing
Tapeworm eggs are shed intermittently, so slightly larger samples improve detection.
1️⃣ Collect manure from 2–3 separate fresh piles if possible.
2️⃣ If only one pile is available, collect 3–4 balls from the centre.
3️⃣ Aim for 3–4 balls total (about half a sandwich-sized zip-lock bag).
4️⃣ Keep refrigerated until drop-off or posting. Do not freeze.
5️⃣ Ordering both FEC & Tapeworm? One sample prepared this way is sufficient for both tests.
🟠 For Pinworm (Sticky Tape Test)
1️⃣ Before grooming or washing, press clear sticky tape firmly onto the skin directly around the anus (under the tail).
2️⃣ Stick the tape flat (sticky side down) onto the inside of a clean zip-lock bag.
3️⃣ Label the bag clearly with the horse’s name.
4️⃣ Do not fold the tape or stick it to paper.
5️⃣ Submit the sealed bag with your completed submission form.
